When You DIY it's As If the Furnace Installs Itself
If you're a homeowner, you can be tempted to do DIY home fixes, including repairing the furnace to save some money. Handling furnace installs by yourself, albeit challenging, is doable. Here's how you go about it.
For starters, turn off the master switch.
Locate the thermostat and remove its wires, then mark them with tape to make it easy to get them back. Next, remove the hard venting and the sheet metal that connects the plenum to the furnace. Before you proceed, use a hot pin to verify that there's no power on the wires. Remove the gas cylinder, wiggle the furnace out, and get it out of the way.
At this stage you are ready for new furnace installs. Using some silicone, clean the mounting surface until it's good and clean. Next, ensure the opening can accommodate the new furnace, and fasten it in place so that it won't have any movement. Next, install the electrical by fastening the conduit using a screwdriver, then connect the wiring and fasten the switch back to the side of the unit.
The next step is to slide the filter in, reattach the thermostat wire, and fix the gas cylinder back in. Finally, check for any leaks, put the covers back, and reattach the ductwork. That should be it for the furnace installs.
