Types of Rocks to Get From a Local Rock Delivery Company
As described in the "Comparing Crushed Rock (& Gravel) Sizes and How They're Used" YouTube video, commercial rocks differ in size and cleanliness, and the combination leads to differences in applications. Rocks sold by local rock delivery firms are distinguished as clean versus minus. Mixed with minus rocks are "fine" particles that fit between the rocks, while clean rocks consist only of rocks in a particular size range.
Rocks are also categorized by size, starting with ¾ inch and up to 8-inch squalls. Large landscape rocks are sized in a separate scheme, ranging from 1/2-man to 8-man.
The smaller rock applications include acting as gravel for roads, the base for paved or concrete roads, or combinations. In some cases, a road construction firm might use larger clean rocks to establish a base for a road and place smaller minus rocks to make the road smoother. The smaller, clean rocks are often used instead of mulch or other materials in gardens and garden pathways. Meanwhile, large landscape rocks are used as roadway borders, landscaping applications, walls and gabions, or wirework containers filled with rocks.
The largest rocks get regular use for seawalls and similar applications where they must remain in place despite withstanding exposure to powerful forces pushing them somewhere else.
